Hirschberg, Thuringia
In cooperation with studioetcetera we develop and realize the fourth location of Her(r)bergskirchen: Hirschberg an der Saale.
Since 2017 rarely used churches along the long-distance hikingtrail Rennsteig at Thüringer Wald were transformed to so-called HER(R)BERGSKIRCHEN. Supported by local actors the sacred spaces are now opened to new usages – for the local community as well as for hiking tourists crossing these places.
Based on a workshop for ideas with the local community in April 2022, we realize during building-workshops in summer 2022 objects in and around the church as enabler for new ways of using the space: four sleeping places , a shelf to exchange books, a reading corner, a rest area on the churchyard as well as two large community-tables and chairs. The new sleeping alcoves fit into the existing wooden church benches on the lateral galleries. Circular curtains provide intimacy and individual separation from the nave.
